So many struggling MLM’ers are failing in this industry and it is not due to lack of effort. Most go their whole lives wishing for more out of life and never even make the attempt to better their situations. Everyone actually working to accomplish their dreams deserves to be applauded however I hate to see their efforts wasted.
A disturbing trend I have noticed is that individuals are getting involved with one opportunity after another whether it is an MLM, affiliate, referral etc… You have seen these people; you know the ones with one tweet after another promoting everything under the sun.
They then jump right into social networking with the single focused intent to promote (sell) anything and everything they can.
Mistake #1:Indiscriminately promoting anything and everything! You must first form a business plan and carefully chose what it is you are willing to promote. Your reputation is on the line.
In any business, but especially small business, you need to target one specific audience with laser precision. Determine what your niche is and focus all of your energy on that.
Successful marketers start by determining what is needed and then develop products and services to meet those needs. They don’t blanket the universe with random ads hoping someone will see it and buy.
This brings us to a related mistake. Whether it is on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter or anywhere else most people are using social networking sites for advertising and only advertising. Most “tweets” are 100% sales messages. Myspace group posts are all advertising messages. There aren’t even forum posts anymore!
Mistake #2: Forgetting to “network” on social networking sites. Your goal should be to position yourself as an adviser, be of service and genuinely connect with others if you are looking to build a strong MLM business.
Which brings us to our question…
Are You Looking to Make a Couple Sales or Build an MLM Business?
Its possible you can work your fingers to the bone and make a few sales in the process by tweeting your heart out, posting ads on Craigslist and so on… but then what? Once you stop…so does the meager sales you might have generated (if you were lucky).
Mistake #3: Jumping into social networking, PPC campaigns and any other advertising before you have built a business to promote. You must first build YOUR business before you promote anything and what you promote should fit into YOUR business plan.
Many “Mlm Gurus” will feed you genius little insights into marketing principles. They will excite you with thoughts about attraction marketing. They will give you a piece of the puzzle here and there and then bait you into purchasing more.
Then once they teach you all this great stuff they say…now all you have to do is promote my product! What? How does that position you as a leader? It doesn’t.
Your job is to build your business. There is a valid role for affiliate marketing in your business plan but you really should be focused on establishing a solid business of your own. To do that you really should stop everything your doing until you have built a website of your own.
The life-blood of any online business is traffic. Not traffic to your prepackaged MLM site, referral sites, affiliate sites…but YOUR website. This is how you establish yourself as a legitimate presence on the web. Your “networking” sites should serve as feeder sites to YOUR website.
Your website can then feed your other sites. In this way you position yourself so the search engines deliver free traffic to you. (targeted traffic) At that point you can deliver your message, pre-sell your visitors and direct them through your sales funnel.
Okay…so how do you build your business so it generates ongoing free traffic for years to come giving you the ability to promote anything you want to YOUR visitors?
Make it your business to help others build their businesses! Content is the currency of the internet. Build a website that delivers quality content your target market will value and you are finally on the road to internet success.

Market America Unfranchise - Compensation Plan Business Review
They call it the “unfranchise”. Meaning it is likened to a franchise offering all the benefits of a franchise without the traditional overhead expenses and fees that are associated with a franchise. Market America is a product brokerage and one to one marketing company specializing in Mass Customization. Founded in 1992 by James Ridinger, Market America makes its headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Business Model
Market America is part of the Network Marketing Industry. Each unfranchise owner is encouraged to recruit others into the network of unfranchise owners. By doing so they will create leverage for themselves and their unfranchise business. The requirements to activate and qualify your unfranchise to begin receiving profits is as follows. You must recruit two people one on your left and one on your right side of your business. You must qualify your business by purchasing 200BV worth of product and then remain on an “transfer buy” of 50bv to 150bv each month. (BV is approx. 80% per $1 spent. Example, $100 = 80 BV) Once your network begins to grow your points start accumulating. Upon reaching certain points or bv on your left and right you will start to receive commission checks.
Here are some specific details regarding the binomial compensation plan that Market America uses. First, as stated before you have two sides of your business. To qualify your business you will need to purchase 200 - 600 BV of product, this equates to $350-$1000 worth of product. After that you will be encouraged to spend an additional several hundred dollars in business support materials. Once you qualify your center with your initial purchase you are required to purchase 50BV - 150BV of product per month, depending on your position within the pay plan. We will use an average monthly order of 100bv as we get further into the plan.
Now that you are qualified you must activate your business by sponsoring or recruiting two people one person on the left side and the other on the right. To do this your sponsor will help teach you how to introduce the business and products to people who may have an interest. Upon activating your center with your two new people you are now able to collect commissions based on the volume created within your two lines or legs.
For this example we are going to talk about the part of the business that matters the most. The residual income that can be generated. To generate an income of $300 you will need 1200 points on your left and 1200 points on your right. The next level is 2400/2400 = $300, 3600/3600 = $300, 5000/5000= $600 for a total payout per cycle of $1500 at that time your volume resets to 0 and this can happen every week.
There are several other ways to calculate increased commissions, this includes purchases from partner stores on your web portal as well as bonuses for helping others on your team make money.
In conclusion this compensation plan is better than most MLM or binary compensation plans out there. Market America’s compensation plan is not a scam and is set up in such a way that the average person who applies some effort can create substantial success within this organization.

Network Marketing Recruiting, is simply the act of finding other entrepreneurs to join your business as a partner. In this case, our first mission is NOT to sell product to our potential recruits, but instead to bring them on board with them intending to grow a business.
What’s The REAL Reason We Recruit a Downline?
The Mlm Compensation structure is set up so that we are able to earn a commission off of the things that we personally sell. We can also earn a smaller commission off of the things that our downline sells.
That make sense – Right?
This is why many network marketers put a lot of effort into MLM recruiting. If we have a team selling products that we earn a commission from, if frees up our time to focus on other things – Right?
But here is the thing.
The NUMBER ONE REASON to recruit a downline is NOT to have your downline focus on finding more business builders.
The REAL Reason We Recruit A Downline Is So That We Can Teach And Train Them To SELL Our Company Product Or Service.
This concept is so simple, I know. Yet most new networkers are so hesitant to actually sell anything that they find it much more comfortable to share the business opportunity instead.
Having this mindset is a BAD move for a number of reasons that are beyond the scope of this article.
But to be successful in network marketing, here is how you should think about your business.
Think of your business as a small sales force. Really no different than the sales team in any traditional business.
The primary goal of the sales team (that’s you) is to SELL the product. Hiring and training more salesmen (or in our case recruiting new business builders) only comes SECOND to selling the product.
I can almost guarantee that if you begin to put your focus on retailing product instead of on MLM recruiting you will find your business growing beyond your belief.

You might have heard of “Network Marketing” as a get rich quick scheme. I am here to tell you that that is just not true. As a matter of fact, it is so far from the truth, that that phrase is quite comical to me. Well, on the one hand it is comical to me, and on the other hand it’s upsetting. “Network Marketing” requires a lot of hard work. You will hear me say frequently that this business is simple, even fun, and frequently exciting, but it is not easy.
Have you ever heard the statement, If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is? Well, take caution to what you hear and say as you build your “Network Marketing” dynasty. To tell anyone that this is easy, is utterly untrue ! To say to people that they need to only bring in a certain amount of distributors and then sit back and collect is also utterly untrue. Network Marketing is a legitimate business work program. Network Marketing does offer unlimited income and time freedom after you’ve built a large organization, and it certainly can be tempting to sugar-coat the process to get people to get involved, but such practices are a set up for disappointment and in the end, they don’t help anyone. So network marketing is far from a means to “get rich quick”, but the great news is your rewards will increase over time and your efforts don’t necessarily have to increase with it. Good Network Marketing Companies are designed to reward significantly and increasingly over time with lesser effort, as your network picks up momentum (and the duplication or compounding effort of your downline takes off.)
The Get Rich Quick Delusion is the Problem
The promise of a fast and easy fortune does appeal to people in this world of fast food, drive up service, one-hour dry cleaning, and getting everything one wants immediately by putting it on a credit card. We are bombarded with advertising that says we can (and should) have it now. “Drive it home today, no interest for 12 months, and sleep in your new bedroom set tonight. But, this idea of earning $10,000 an hour without having to lift a finger is enticing, but it’s just not true and propagating this fallacy only adds to the negative image that this industry has had in the past. We need to work together to invite people into these great opportunities on solid ground, so that our organizations do not quickly degrade into a rope of sand.
Network Marketing is work. It is a real business. I often refer to it as being similar to owning a franchise, but without all the headaches. If you attend to this like big business, it will treat you back like big business, but if you consider it as a side venture, it will only pay you accordingly. Of course, there are a myriad of reasons people have when pursuing this industry. Some want to come in to build an organization which will help them to achieve goals that are beyond their wildest imaginations. And, they can do that, if they take strategically implemented, and persistent action toward the attainment of their written goals. They must also be mentored by those with the experiential know how.
Others come into the industry to supplement their income by a few hundred to thousands of dollars per month. They may even see this as an opportunity to start a business part-time around their current business in the hopes that they may eventually be able to replace their current income, which is also a worthy goal. Generally speaking though, a person gets back according to what they put in, but part-timers must also be persistent and consistent in the attainment of their written goals, even if it is done on a part-time basis.
So, who gets involved with Network Marketing? People from all walks of life! For example, executives from major corporations see Network Marketing as a ticket to freedom. This is a great opportunity to earn the same type of income they are used to, and more! There is also the freedom to do it alongside their current schedules and career! Once the income passes and/or exceeds their current income, they can then go forward full-time in their Network Marketing endeavor.
Network Marketing attracts people from all walks of life- everyone from CEO to Indian Chiefs! Age (some companies require a legal guardian), color, gender, business background, educational background, just doesn’t matter! Geographical boundaries only apply according where a company is currently open for business. But, once involved and building in this industry, you are free to transact business in every country where the company is open.
get rich quick, get rich fast, get rich quick scheme Let us consider this simple scenario: You live in Florida and sponsor someone in New York, who sponsors someone in Canada, who sponsors someone in Texas, who sponsors someone in Singapore, who sponsors someone in Taiwan, who sponsors someone in California, who sponsors someone in Australia, who sponsors someone in Alabama and viola, you have business in all those locations!
Everyone of these individuals got into this business because they saw it as a viable opportunity for themselves and their family, and they are building their businesses to achieve their goals and dreams in life. Instead of putting a fortune into advertising, a Network Marketing organization focuses on 1. the production of high quality products and/or services and 2. into paying their highly valued distribution force for spreading the word. I think J. Paul Getty, one of America’s first billionaires, said it best, “I would rather have 1% of the efforts of 100 men than 100% of my own efforts.” That is a great description of Network Marketing.

Patty Cepeda, Strategic Business Coach with www.IBelieveYouCan.com was introduced to the industry of Multi-level Marketing or network marketing in December of 1988. At that time, she was enrolled in a one year Master’s program. She certainly wasn’t the person you’d think would be interested in MLM or anything else, for that matter! She was the last person someone would have prospected based on her 70 to 80 hour work week! It didn’t appear that she had any extra time on her hands let alone to build a business! But the person who prospected her was extremely happy he did! That proved to be one of the most lucrative things ever for him and Patty thanks God that he took the time to show her the opportunity that completely changed her life.
Patty and her husband had two great jobs. As a matter of fact, Patty will tell you how she never questioned that; she and her husband had met in college, graduated and began two careers that would prove to be both lucrative and well-respected. No one would have ever dreamed that there was any hint of dissatisfaction, but deep down inside of her, Patty admits that working for somebody else was not what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. But, she didn’t have an answer until someone prospected her into what she calls the greatest industry in the world! When she saw this opportunity that offered both unlimited income and time freedom to enjoy it, She had to have it and nothing was going to get in her way of becoming tremendously successful! She had other things that were motivating her, but the primary one was “the freedom to be able to do what she wants, when she wants, with whom she wants, as much as she wants, and not have to worry about money!” She saw that lifestyle was available through MLM.
So she began building her business on a very part-time basis around a very busy schedule and went on to become one of the first fifty highest-paid distributors in that company where the company posted averages at the level she reached was $74,000 per month! She had no business background, no industry background, but what she did have was someone who coached her on how to become a champion in this industry. She found a mentor and coach and became the best student ever. Patty has gone on to earn as much as six figures in one month in MLM! She attributes this great success story to her ability to become the greatest student ever, taking massive action, and maintaining laser focus. She will tell you that she knew, that she knew, that she knew, that she knew she was going to be hugely successful and no one was going to steal her dreams.
Patty is married to her best friend and husband of 20 years. They have enjoyed much freedom to travel and to donate their time and money to various charities and organizations that they align with. Patty is also very happy that their five children know their father as well as they know her!
