Multi-level Marketing (Mlm Or Network Marketing) has gotten a bad name over the years as thousands of people have tried the business and failed. The statistics still say that 97% of people who sign up will quit before making any measurable income. Yet the industry continues to thrive as new companies come on the horizon. Even the old stalwarts such as Amway and Shaklee which have been around for decades are doing well. New distributors sign up with these companies daily.
Network marketing offers hope as one of the few ways that a person can own his own business with the possibility of making insane amounts of money without a huge financial outlay. It is as true now as it was years ago.
Some of the real successful giants in the Network Marketing Industry are people who were successful in other fields before they even considered the business. Professional people such as doctors, lawyers, and accountants have side businesses in network marketing.
People see this industry as a way to leverage their time and build residual income. Doing the work once and getting paid for years is desirable. Just as writers and actors can receive royalties for many years, network marketers have the possibility to see their income continue or even grow in the future.
To become a success in network marketing, it is necessary to walk the walk. You have to believe in the industry and get over the stigma which may still be attached to it in the minds of many people.
It is normal for some people to turn up their noses at those who approach them with a Network Marketing Opportunity. Friends and relatives who are approached may ridicule the new distributor for thinking they can make it in this business. Some may be kind to their face, but they have no interest in joining. It may take a thick skin to be able to talk to anyone about the business.

Multi Level Marketing Travel

Have you had success with Your Travel Busines (YTB)?
I’m looking into it, primarily to get travel discounts. I know it has some characteristics of a Multi Level Marketing Company like Amway. I don’t have the personality to get people into and Mlm Business.
I’m not looking for a glowing testimonial that has been copied & pasted a million times…I’m looking for find out what the discounts are available to YTB agents, how much money you make and how much time you need to put into marketing your website.

I am planning on getting into YTB myself. One of my friends, who happens to be one of my bosses wife just started doing it and is doing well; now my husband and I are on board (just have to wait for payday for the $500.).
The travel benefits ROCK!!! She showed me her web site that had all the FAM trips for the month and it was crazy how cheap things are!!! Another good perk is once you get signed up and receive your credential card you can usually get major discounts at hotels (when available) - My friend had to go out of town on business when she checked in to her hotel she mentioned she was an RTA. Instead of the $250 queen bed room she was assigned she got a suite for $99!!! I have a co worker who sounds a bit like you, she is interested in YTB just for the travel perks. I believe she is going to sign up this week too.
I hope this helps a little. I am not signed up yet so I really don’t know a whole lot of specifics.
About the website… I am PRETTY sure they do all the work for you, that is the $50 p/ mo charge. Once you get 6 people underneath you, YTB reimburses you the 50 each mo.
You make 60% of what YTB makes off of the things people book through your site. Time… I am not really not sure how much time one must invest to get a good return, still figuring that out myself.

Do you really know What Mlm is?
Multi-level Marketing (MLM) is one of the growing business up until today. MLM is a marketing structure used by some companies to create a good amount of sales through a huge work force. Companies who follow this strategy target people who can both be a consumer and business partner.
This one person, who engages in such companies, will earn through selling and recruiting people. This is where the leverage comes in. This business partner of the company now will produce down lines through personal invitations, relationship referrals or by word of mouth. This is how he will earn.
Whatever sales or recruitment of the people under him is also his income. His down lines will also sell and earn at the same time. It is a never-ending cycle. MLM is created in this manner. That is Why Mlm has been attracting a lot of people. It promises people a good income. Why? Compared to starting off a new business on your own, once you sign up as an MLM member, you will have a back-up system through a steady company.
Recently though, the strategy of MLM is questioned. Is MLM scrupulous? Or does it violate ethical or moral standards?
MLM is actually considered a legitimate business.
However, not all Mlm Companies are legitimate and it may be difficult for people who are looking for income to distinguish which companies can be trusted. This issue started coming out since the rampant occurrences of pyramid schemes. Pyramid schemes are much like what MLM offers. Although, what pyramid schemes do is to get money from its members and never get it back while MLM’s recruitment process is mainly focused on having other people to buy and or re-sell the company’s products.
You have to take note that:
- MLM companies do not ask for a big sum of money. If you are being asked to invest a big amount in the company you’re trying to join, you may want to think again before signing up.
- Does your company ask you to pay for the whole lot of your inventory products? Legitimate Mlm companies assure 80 % returns of the unsold products, schemes do not.
- MLM does establish a market. One of MLM’s goals is to build a stable name for their company. Schemes are just focused on getting more and more members that they can get money from. MLM emphasize on the selling part. As mentioned above, legitimate companies always want to build stability for their company - that is their main goal. If companies focus more on recruitment, do not sign up.
- You have to know more about the company you are planning to get into. Do some background research, talk to the people who are already members.
Being a part of an Mlm Company can definitely bring you profit, that is, if they are not schemes hiding in an Mlm Structure.The best thing you can do, check with the Better Business Bureau, that way, you can see if there are any complaints with the company. This way, you can help yourself from being victimized.

Downline
What you have done is create a Network of “Distribution Channels” for your Product( a downline) which you can receive “Brokerage Royalties’ or Overrides on that can be quite substantial. The possibility is always held out that you may become rich if not from your own efforts then from some unknown person (”the big fish”) who might join your “downline. Short of termination, downlines can be taken away arbitrarily. It’s a two tier residual affiliate program and it is obvious I want to build a downline and another income stream with it. You’ll see that they offer something to their downlines much more than just “How to Make Money”.

Building Relationships for Your Networking Business
A common practice someone may have told you to do is to “make a list of everyone you know,” and “it does not matter who they are, just write them down, because you will contact them eventually.”
Then, you were probably instructed to call all of these people with a tremendous amount of excitement telling them that you just found out about this exciting new business, and they just HAVE to hear about it.
After that, they will so curious about what all the excitement is about and want to know what you are doing, and then you “edify your upline” (BTW: edify is not a real word 
who will then recruit them for you and everyone is happy… Right?
WRONG!
This strategy rarely works, and it is trained over and over again. This is mostly why the general public hates MLM (or at least thinks they do).
The very thought of having this type of conversation may have induced a deep feeling of anxiety in your gut. Most likely, you don’t want to be that guy or girl who’s always trying to sell your friends on the new vitamin product, new telephone plan, or fantastic new gizmo.
You are not alone.
Many others experience the same amount of anxiety over the very thought of approaching their friends, family and business associates in this manner. It’s uncomfortable, it’s not natural, and more importantly, it doesn’t work for most people.
People do not care about your business, your product or the CEO of your company. They care about you. So put your best foot forward.
The truth is that the average life-span of a new person’s MLM career is VERY SHORT. This is mainly because the most common ways of teaching and promoting MLM is to start selling immediately without gaining the foundation to build a successful business. This often causes immediate rejection, which makes most people quit right away.
These methods are simply outdated strategies that do not work in today’s world.
They produce a 95%+ failure rate and it is time for change.
It’s time to build relationships on a foundation of trust and respect.
Building a list of people you know is not a bad practice. It’s what you DO with this list that counts.
Begin to build your list of people you know. Make it a goal to list at least 150 people. Never forget that your list is your goldmine. You need people to grow your business.
As you know, your list is composed of a lot of people from all different walks of life. Some you have known since childhood, since high school, previous jobs, people who attended your wedding, people you work with, you get the point.
Your list consists of POTENTIAL customers or business partners. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you must be able to RELATE to all these people, if you want them to work with you or be your customer now or in the future.
There are two reasons for making this list: The first is obviously to establish just how many contacts you have, and the second, most important reason, is to get you in the habit of keeping a list. People are creatures of habit. Keeping a list of your current and future prospects is not only a good habit, it is fundamental to your success.
Simply contacting people on your list with great enthusiasm will not create the success you are hoping for. Enthusiasm is good, but it’s certainly not the only ingredient in the recipe for success.
We urge you NOT to begin by sharing your opportunity with friends and family, until you are comfortable with your Why, your company’s products, and how these products benefit you and others using them. Don’t spoil what could possibly be a very good opportunity for others with a weak and uneducated approach.
Remember, your list is your goldmine, so give these people some respect! DO NOT, absolutely do not, call the people on your list yelling with excitement. Doing this will kill all credibility you may have with them.
We know, because we have all done it, and seen others do it too… and fail. By now you must be wondering, “Well, what DO I do with this list then?”
Here’s what you do…
Go through your new list and contact the people you have not talked to for quite a while, and get caught up with them. Ask them questions about their life, ask them how they are doing, ask them how their kids or their wife or their family is doing. Ask them what they have been up to, outside of work, etc. You get the point.
This may seem like the most obvious thing to do, but most people overlook this step in the initial process and then wonder why they are not getting results!
Understand, this may not get them to join your business. You are networking.
Remember, this is Network Marketing. Your job is to contact people and ask them questions about how their life is going to see if your product and/or opportunity will fit into their life.
Your first or second contact will usually never include any recruiting. Be interested versus trying to sound interesting. Make a note of the ones that may be a good fit, and make a note of those that are definitely not a good fit. If it does not seem like a fit for them - move on. Do not waste your time trying to convince people.
The key to successfully doing business with people is building strong and long lasting relationships with them. This is especially true in Network Marketing. If you call someone you have not spoken with in two years and spend a little time catching up with them, finding out how they have been and what has happened in their lives since you last spoke (and you are genuinely interested), chances are they are going to feel good about your conversation.
However, if you call them up, give a little small talk, and then try and sell them on your business, the result will be much different. It’s pretty simple logic.
You need to get to know what makes people tick. You will be looking and listening for how and where their lifestyle could benefit from an opportunity like the one you hope to offer them. You are also pre-qualifying them to see if you actually want to offer them this opportunity. Some people will not have the values you are looking for - so don’t waste your time.
If you practice the goal of simply reconnecting with people, you can expect them to be naturally interested in your life too.
This is the same practice for new people you meet. Some people complain about not having enough people to talk to. This is a ridiculous excuse. There are plenty of people around for anyone to talk to. The question is… what are your intentions?
By simply having the intention to make friends, and show genuine curiosity towards others, anyone can have an endless pool of prospects. Just ask people questions about themselves.
How is your job going?
Tell me more about that.
What would you rather be doing if time and money were not an issue?
People like to talk about themselves. As people talk, you can scan for values…
Do they have a genuinely positive outlook, or a negative outlook?
Do they seem out going, or are they an introvert?
Do they seem to take personal responsibility, or do they blame others for problems in their life?
You are looking for other entrepreneurs. Most people you come across will not consider themselves to be entrepreneurs. This does not mean that they are not at heart. They may not know they are.
Scanning for values is important because you a re looking for people who share some of the same values you do. It is much easier to attract like minded people into your business.
Once you have built the relationship, and there is some level of trust and respect then these types of people are likely to join you, or at least be supportive of your endeavors, because you showed interest in who they are to begin with.
People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Build the relationship first, and offer your business secondly. If you focus on building quality relationships, it will be easy to find quality prospects and grow your business.

Even addicts have to first agree that they have a problem before they can be helped. So if we can quickly review the major reasons why people fail we can just avoid those pitfalls. Let us take a look at these pointers:
1. Be prepared to handle rejection. Who said that any kind of selling was easy? But what it all boils down to, is your attitude. If you can understand that a rejection of the opportunity that you are so excited about is not a rejection of you as a person, then you are on your way. “No” must be interpreted as “next”. This is easier said than done but it’s the price of success. The Internet and other new technologies now allow some rejection proof approaches, such as using lead capture pages and autoresponder messages. These methods serve to “pre-qualify” your prospects. There still must come a time when you will have to be in personal contact with your down line members however.
Part of preparing your mind for these ‘negative’ people is to fill your mind with positive messages. There are many Network Marketing and “positive thinking” speakers that will help you keep your spirits up. You will be surprised to discover the boost that motivational tapes and books can give to your attitude in general. This is one of the benefits of being in this industryit teaches you to have a brighter outlook on life.
2. Be realistic in your expectations. To expect too much too soon will only set you up for a possible let down. Accept that this is a legitimate business that requires investment of time and effort and you must be prepared to sow the seeds for the harvest you expect to reap. Who would buy a car wtihout first asking the price and considering if they could afford it or not?
When you are quoted the salaries of the big recruiters, be sure to ask how much time and money they spent to get to that level. This information will give you a clearer picture.
3. Once you find a reputable company be prepared to stay for the long haul.
This goes without saying but if you expect to succeed you must stay the course. The most successful people in life have gone through very trying times but they stuck with it and left a legacy behind. It is often said that tough times don’t last but tough people do. The same is true for those seeking to build a solid recurring income. You should commit yourself to at least 3 years before making a decision either way.
Jumping from one opportunity to the next only shows a lack of decision and stability in you planning. Teenagers are expected to fall in and out of love every few months, but married couples have committed for life. Be ready for commitment, not just a casual and part-time thing!
4. Do not make the business more complicated than it needs to be. Stick with what works.
There is always the temptation to improve on the methods that experienced networkers have shown to work. Go with what works, not with what should work. If you find a system that has been working just plug into it and squeeze the last drop of success you can get from this. This means that you must show yourself teachable to your up line and be willing to teach your down line members the same system. Success normally comes from doing what works over and over again until it becomes second nature.
Another note of caution is that you should not expect from your recruits what you are not doing yourself. There a many networkers who will give advice that they are not willing to follow. In other word they get their team members to “do the dirty work” for them. This practice takes away from the real meaning of duplicationI’m doing the same thing that I’m teaching you to do.
5. Train and then let loose!
The real power of Network Marketing is the power of leverage. Rather than using 100% of your own effort, you are using 1% of the effort of a hundred. If your down line members become too dependent upon you then they will be using 110% of your effort. This can easily lead to rapid burnout.
So the key here is to train your frontline members, then train them to train their frontline members. Once you become more advanced in your business, you’ll be able to help colleagues temporarily by picking up their slack. The important thing here is that your team members understand that effort is required on their part or they cannot expect your support.
Here are some additional insider tips on really hitting the ground running. These ’secrets’ are learned from the study of those who have made millions in this industry.
6. Connect with a lot of people at once, rather than a one-on-one process.
We just mentioned that the real power of Network Marketing is leveraging your efforts. Did you ever notice that the real successful people in this industry never talk to one person at a time? Just think about it. Your recruiting message or script will be the same for each prospect. You are introducing them to a business opportunity. If you were to use the telephone to do your presentations, how many prospects can you talk to in one day? So here is what the serious marketers do:
(a) Set up a toll free number with a recorded message and invite callers to leave their number and other contact information.
(b) Advertise conference calls where many people can join and listen to your presentation at the same time.
(c) Run a message board on your website where people can ask questions and discuss the business.
(d) Host an online conference chat room.
(e) Buy leads and load them into an auto responder with your prospecting message. Be careful of here to avoid SPAM complaints. Also clarify that your auto responder program that your systems resides on, will permit you to use purchased lead programs.
7. Target other network marketers.
This may seem to go against the issue of not jumping from opportunity to opportunity, but it is much easier to work with someone who has already worked in the industry than a totally new person. There are list brokers who specialize in mailing list of distributors from companies that have closed down. Such people don’t need to be taught the basics, and this is a massive advantage.
In addition to this, you can expect that if they join forces with you they can bring their entire down line from the old company. Of course, one challenge is that these seasoned marketers will also be more difficult to recruit since they will take a more critical stance of your opportunity.

How much do cell phone companies pay for advertising?
I just joined a marketing company who gets paid from big companies like at&t (and other cell phone companies), dish network, GE etc and I am wondering about this companies compensation plan. So how much do those big companies pay out in advertising? Would they pay more for word of mouth?
what companies pay depends on where the ads will be seen. Super Bowl ads are notoriasly expensive becuase so very many people will see them. They pay less if the commercial is seen at 1:00 A.M. than if it seen during prime time. Many variables.
Companies also pay more when launching a new product as apposed to a tried and true product.
